Such vibrancy, orange, what a colour and conjuring up so many thoughts. There’s the Orange Man, the Orange Order and Holland. Sunny days, vodka and orange and orange squash as a child in a plastic bottle that I took to school. There’s Moygashel bonfires, some would call real street art, others would call race hate. Then there’s the orange jumper that one of Mel and Kim wore and didn’t someone say they wanted to be an orange jumper if reincarnated? Something like that I’m sure. Imprisonment in the States and freedom, telephone companies and marches for The 12th all come to mind. People in East Belfast still have flags about the Birmingham Pub Bombs and support Justice for the 21. Orange is mixed with blue in Sikhism and you don’t see many front doors in this colour and not many people seem to wear this colour either.
The little figures in my work could represent the alter ego, childhood memories, our inner thoughts, that type of thing. It’s for you to decide what you see.
