COMMS & ART

Here I am in little old England.  Walsall in the West Midlands to be more precise and just in case you’re interested, I support businesses with HR management and communications.  I create art work too.

“And?” you may be thinking … well maybe I should explain a bit.  I think that people should be supported in their work and if you want the best from your people, maybe you should offer them something other than just money.  That might be training opportunities, treating people with dignity, showing your commitment to the environment and social issues including what’s happening in your local community.  You know what, that’s where I can come in.  I can network and bring people together.

You can get in touch to find out more, but here’s a little bit to start with.  I’ve taken initial concepts and developed interactive art events and all my communications were through social media and email where I introduced my ideas.  This brought award-winning artists together for Walsall Arts Fest events and I managed all PR and social media leading to press, TV and radio coverage and working with some amazing sponsors.  I’ve been on an Equality and Diversity group at a firm of solicitors and connected with young people (mainly Muslim) through getting involved with a school panto.  I wanted to find a different way of making a connection and feel that this can be achieved through the arts.

IT does it for me.  I love digital communications as well as face-to-face stuff.  This can help with sharing your HR policies and training people so that everyone ends up being nice and legally compliant.

I keep my eye out on social media where trends can be seen and much of this filters into employment tribunals, so it’s all good fun.

You may have a message that you want to share publicly and with your staff.  Internal marketing is every bit as important as external marketing and patronising people and looking like you’re undertaking checkbox exercises really doesn’t wash.  There’s a need for engagement and this isn’t as easy as you think.  It’ll depend on how you have managed your business and how you bring people into processes and that’s where I can work with you.  Tone is everything and if it doesn’t fit with your managerial style communications may seem a touch insincere.

Let me work with you on your communications and HR management.  I can create campaigns that may include characters so please have a look at my little meowza, Ska d’cat and my other creation, Moog doog.

ABOUT ME

I’m an Aquarian Wood Dragon which is meant to be good by all accounts.  Anyway, I try to minimise the time I spend listening to astrology videos on Youtube in case life passes me by whilst waiting for the positive stuff to happen.  There’s a couple of things I’m proud of … owning chopsticks and a wooden spoon from Vietnam and once I was pushed out of a plane when doing a parachute jump for charity.  Is that a mix of an introvert and extrovert?

I was brought up in Birmingham, UK.  What a great place with great people.  My accent is quite broad and was subject to much ridicule in previous times although not so much these days as I don’t think this stuff is allowed 🙂

In my spare time I like to swim and go for walks.  Just the simple stuff really, like walking round a park and enjoying the different seasons.

I remember Gangsters by The Specials being released and the school just went mad.  Many years later I’m co-ordinating a conversation between Rawtrachs, a West Midlands DJ, and Horace Panter of The Specials.  This was after Rawtrachs had been involved in my art work called Coffin Coffin soft sculpture in a pub. White satin cofin with a red cross on the top representing the St. George's Cross. The work is interactive art work and people are asked what they would be saying goodbye to at the funeral of England. This is about how people identify with England and what it means to them. Poetry and performance has accompanied this work and there is a Condolences Book that people leave comments in as well.which asked what people would be saying goodbye to at the funeral of England.  I’d made this work after seeing the EDL and UAF clashing on the streets of Birmingham in 2010.  The work is soft sculpture and people have responded to the question with poetry and performance and you can see some of the footage on a Facebook page here.  Coffin 2010.  Rawtrachs had said that he thought that music unifies people and mentioned The Specials and that’s how I ended up getting in touch with Horace.  Here’s a link to the conversation.

The reason I created interactive art work was so that people could respond to it and the work developed this way.  With Coffin there is a Condolences Book that accompanied the work and people left their messages in there.  Coffin soft sculpture photographed on a wall with the words Bob Marley as graffiti on another wall behind it.This was an interesting piece of work and people from minority groups and with mixed heritage took part in the work.  I was interested in how people related to England and what they would be saying goodbye to.  This work was part of Walsall Arts Fest events and you can see footage on Facebook too.

So, basically, I’ve enjoyed bringing people together to share ideas and thoughts and I like to bring this into my work in Human Resources as well.  Listening is so important in the workplace as is mediation and we all want to be happy and supported in what we do.

I’ve lived in Plymouth, London, Hong Kong and Australia.  I’ve enjoyed meeting lots of different people along the way and working with different people.  Travel is good for the soul.

I hope this is enough to at least make you intrigued.  Please get the ball rolling by Whatsapping me on 07949 777462 or complete the form on here (best to follow up with a phone call though).  I can work locally or remotely through email.
