ORANGE MAN

10"x12"canvas called the Orange Man. Large figure on the left holding a flower. Behind the figure is a sideboard and a smaller figure in some kind of yoga pose with one hand and one foot on the sideboard and the other foot and hand raised. There is a light at the top of the image. The smaller figure wears an orange jumpsuit. Blue background.

Orange Man 10” x 12” canvas

The Orange Man makes me think of that man in America, I’m sure you know who.  The jumpsuit, well it’s making me think of the uniform of the captive.  Orange is the colour that America chose for its prisoners, apparently just because it is bright.  Blessed be the fruit.  Looking at the red shoes I’m now thinking about Wild at Heart by David Lynch.  That really was a wild film, one of the most memorable I feel, what a love story.

My work has a main figure and a smaller figure and this could be the alter ego or childhood memories, it could be someone you have lost too.  Who knows what the alter ego is, it could be a face we put on at work, it could be part of our personalities that are kept largely hidden, maybe it’s what we would really like to say to people but know that we can’t.  You’ll find gender ambiguity in my work too, you can decide what the work means to you.  There’s old fashioned images too like here the sideboard and the light.  I loved the décor of the 60s and 70s.
